THE SACRAMENTAL LIFE OF HOLY CROSS, REVOLVING AROUND OUR WEEKLY EUCHARISTIC CELEBRATION , HAS KEPT US AWARE OF OURSELVES AS BELONGING TO GOO AND SHARING LIFE WITH ONE ANOTHER.

 

BARBARA REID SKEEN WAS THE FIRST CHILD WE WELCOMED INTO OUR FAITH COMMUNITY THROUGH 8APTISM ON SEPT.21, 1969. HER GODPARENTS WERE THOMAS & CECILE LYNCH. AS OF SEPT.1ST OF 1993 WE HAVE ECORDED 640 BAPTISMS IN OUR PARISH SACRAMENT REGISTER.

 

OUR INITIAL FIRST COMMUNION CLASS WAS MADE UP OF FOUR STUDENTS; DONNA LAKO, MAUREEN MCGOWAN, AMANDA ROYALS AND JOHN TILLEY , WHO RECEIVED JESUS IN THE EUCHARIST FOR THE FIRST TIME ON MAY 11, 1970. SINCE THEN, 572 YOUNG PEOPLE HAVE JOINED US AT THE LORD'S TABLE.

 

BISHOP BEGLEY CAME DEC.16, 1 973 TO ANOINT AND LAY HANDS ON 24 OF OUR PARISH YOUTH FOR THE FIRST CONFIRMATION HELD AT HOLY CROSS. WE HAVE SINCE HAO 289 CONFIRMED HERE.

 

140  MARRIAGES HAVE  BEEN CELEBRATED SINCE OUR  FIRST  ON  SEPT. 28, 1974 BETWEEN RICHARD F. MATTI ELLO AND ROBBIE LEE CHOATE.

 

IN CHECKING OUR RECORDS WE FOUND THAT JOHN EDDLEMAN IS THE ONLY PARISHIONER, THAT WE KNOW OF, WHO WAS BAPTIZED, MADE HIS 1ST COMMUNION, WAS CONFIRMED, AND WAS MARRIED HERE AT HOLY CROSS AND IS STILL AN ACTIVE MEMBER OF THIS PARISH.

 

THE FIRST BAZAAR WAS HELD !N THE FALL OF 1969 WITH MARY EDDELMAN AS CHAIRMAN. THOSE PRESENT REMEMBER SELLING "A .MILLION" DUST BROOMS MADE OF NYLON NET.

 

IN DECEMBER OF 1969 THE FIRST ADVISORY BOARD WAS ORGANIZED WITH THE REV. MR. GENE GILLIS, CHAIRMAN; JERRY ROYALS, INSURANCE & REAL ESTATE; PAT SKEEN, SECRETARY; CECIL LYNCH, TREASURER; BEV EVERETTE, RELIGIOUS EDUCATION; BILL TRUTE, PUBLICITY; MAC MCGOWAN , SOCIAL CHAIRMAN. IN JANUARY OF 1975 THE ADVISORY BOARD CHANGED TO THE PARISH COUNCIL WITH SIX NEW COMMISSIONS FORMED; SPIRITUAL, COMMUNICATIONS, BUSINESS AND FINANCE, COMMUNITY LIFE, FAMI LY LIFE

ANO RELIGIOUS EDUCATION.

 

THE WOMEN'S CLUB WAS ORGANIZED IN APRIL OF 1970. THE FIRST OFFICERS WERE ·FRANCES MCGOWAN, CHAIRMAN; CORENA LAKO, SECRETARY; AND WILMA TILEY, TREASURER.

 

THE FIRST CHURCH PICNIC WAS HELD IN THE SPRING OF 1970 AT REYNOLDS PARK.

 

BOB AUSTIN, AT AGE 15, WAS THE YOUNGEST MEMBER OF THE PARISH TO BE ASKED TO HELP. THE SANCTUARY SYMBOLS ON EITHER SIDE OF THE MAIN ALTAR WERE CUT OUT AND PAINTED BY HIM IN 1977.
