History of Holy Cross Parish

"In the summer of 1968, the idea of a church of our own was conceived."

Carol Royals, charter member of Holy Cross

Holy Cross Catholic Church began as a mission of St. Benedict The Moor of Winston-Salem.  The first Mass was on September 7, 1969.  Diocesan Priests, Fr. William Pharr and Fr. Edward Beatty, served The Kernersville Mission until September 1973.

Fr. Thomas Fitzpatrick, O.S.F.S. (1987-1997) wrote the following in celebration of the 20th Anniversary of Holy Cross:

".... It is a time to look back and be grateful for all the blessings we have received and how

good God has been to us is so many ways."

".....It (our parish) is indeed a center of our spiritual lives which guides and guards us on our

pilgrim way."

".... All this has been done here at Holy Cross for 20 years.  Truly a sacred place and a center of

Love, Grace and Peace for all who come into this sanctuary.  Truly the presence of God is in this place."

Fr. Tom - September 12, 1993

These words from Fr. Tom continue to be true as Holy Cross Parish approaches its 46th anniversary.  We hope you enjoy not only learning about the history of Holy Cross but discover how Christian optimism, faith, perseverance and God's grace continues to bless the future of Holy Cross.
